Biographical Info

María Baker was born in Argentina, and after completing her M.A. in Spanish and TESOL from West Virginia University, in 2013, she began working as a medical and community interpreter and translator becoming fascinated about interpreting and interpreter education. She became a CMI in 2014 and a CHI in 2018. María has conducted interpreting education for healthcare providers and delivered workshops for interpreters. Passionate about language access and professional development, she participates in conferences as a presenter, and is currently the Outreach Coordinator at the International Medical Interpreters Association, Vice-President of the Interpreters and Translators Association of Alabama, and member of the SPD Digital and Social Media Committee. 
María Baker nació en Argentina y, luego de terminar su maestría en Español y TESOL en West Virginia University en 2013, comenzó a trabajar como intérprete médica y comunitaria, y también como traductora. María desarrolló un gran entusiasmo por la interpretación y la formación y capacitación de los intérpretes. Recibió su certificación como CMI en 2014 y como CHI(TM) en 2018. María ha dirigido eventos de formación para proveedores de servicios de salud y también talleres para intérpretes. En desarrollo de su pasión por el acceso lingüístico y el desarrollo profesional, María participa en conferencias como ponente, y es actualmente la coordinadora de conexión comunitaria de la International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA), Vice-presidenta de la Interpreters and Translators Association of Alabama (ITAA) y miembro del comité de medios sociales de la División de Español de la American Translators Association (ATA).
